Carving Your Own Destiny

It Takes Courage To Grow Up And Become Who You Really Are – E.E. Cummings

One of my favorite childhood memories …

When I was young my dream was to become either a movie star or a model – probably because of all the beautiful women I’d see on the television. I loved watching the beauty pageants with my mom and my older sister and would just be in awe of all the beautiful women at the award shows.

So when we would visit my grandparents house the first thing my sister and I would do is go raid our Nana’s closet as she always had the coolest stuff … hat’s galore, high heel shoes, furs, mink stoles, gloves that went all the way to our elbows. We would dress up and model the clothes around the house as if we were movie stars.

Since my sister was taller than me, she would always be my male date (would put on my grandpas clothes), and I would be the glamorous one. But this picture is the opposite, probably why it is one of my favorite memories of my sister and I.  SHE WAS THE BEAUTY QUEEN AND I WAS HER DATE. And every time I see her beaming her beautiful smile it just brings tears to my eyes.

Well those were just childhood dreams as I never became a movie star, a fashion model, and to be quite honest – one who ever cared about dressing to hilt. But growing up I always knew that my thoughts would create my own reality and only I could carve the path to my destiny. So I chose to focus on the things in my life that I truly loved. And by doing so I became my own person, love how my adult life evolved over the years, and have no regrets.  I feel truly blessed
