The Love Dare – A 40 Day Challenge

Are you up for a good challenge? A dare?  If so let me tell you a little bit about my experience with The Love Dare – A 40 Day Challenge To Strengthen Your Marriage.  It’s a 40 day action plan written by Stephen & Alex Kendrick, for improving marriage –  whether the marriage is healthy and strong or a marriage that’s in need of help.

START THE LOVE DARE 40 DAY CHALLENGE

So Lent was a few months back – and as a Catholic, we were taught as children to “give up something during the 40 days of Lent”.  So when I was young “giving up something” usually meant sweets, television, or those little white lies. And as I grew older I’d give up the usual wasteful spending, swearing, and booze.  But today, now that I’m really older, rather than just giving up something that only affects me, I thought I’d go a different route and include something that would address some of my personal habits that may have a bigger effect on others and other things – like my husband and my marriage.

And seriously, how difficult can it be to become a nicer, more considerate, bite my tongue, be the “good wife” so to speak person, for a full 40 days without compromising myself and becoming a doormat? Then my eye caught this book called “The Love Dare” by Stephen & Alex Kendrick, where for 40 days you challenge yourself to be a better person for the sake of your marriage.

I took the challenge during Lent, found that I CAN BE A NICER AND MORE CONSIDERATE PERSON (especially to my husband) – and I liked who I was during those days that I am once again challenging myself.

And guess what – YOU DON’T NEED LENT TO TAKE “The Love Dare”.  All you need is the desire to make your marriage better.

Funny thing about the book, here’s what’s written on the first page:

“RECEIVE THIS AS A WARNING. THIS FORTY DAY JOURNEY CANNOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.

IT IS A CHALLENGING AND OFTEN DIFFICULT PROCESS, BUT AN INCREDIBLY FULFILLING ONE. TO TAKE THIS DARE REQUIRES A RESOLUTE MIND AND A STEADFAST DETERMINATION.

IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE SAMPLED OR BRIEFLY TESTED, AND THOSE WHO QUIT EARLY WILL FORFEIT THE GREATEST BENEFITS. IF YOU WILL COMMIT TO A DAY AT A TIME FOR FORTY DAYS, THE RESULTS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND YOUR MARRIAGE.

CONSIDER IT A DARE, FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE DONE IT BEFORE YOU.”

GO ALL IN FOR THE SAKE OF BECOMING A BETTER PERSON

Yikes, this tells you right there these next 40 days are not going to be easy.  But ya know what … I love a good dare, am not one to back down from a challenge, and I’m all in for the sake of my marriage.  But most importantly – I’M ALL IN FOR THE SAKE OF BECOMING A BETTER PERSON FOR ME !!  So take the challenge with me – follow along and let’s do this 🙂
