Make Your Own Garden Fertilizer From Weeds

Weed Tea | Best Homemade Garden Fertilizer.  Weeds !! They have been the bane of my existence – a vicious cycle – since day one of gardening.  Whether it’s a flower garden, a vegetable garden, or an orchard, these perennial pests always seem to get the best of me.  They appear out of nowhere, usually overnight, and have literally taken over my garden if I don’t stay on top of them.  So hands up – I’m not fighting them anymore and have decided to turn them into something useful – a WEED TEA.  A weed tea that makes THE BEST HOMEMADE LIQUID, ORGANIC, GARDEN FERTILIZER ever – one that releases all the good nutrients back into the tea and into your plants – nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, sulphur, mangenese, magnesium and more.  It’s super simple to make and it’s FREE !!  Want to learn how?  All you need is a container, water, and weeds – then just follow these 3 easy steps.   Check it out …

GET YOUR CONTAINER – decide on the size you want.  You can go big with a 45 gallon plastic barrel, a large Tupperware storage container, or a 5 gallon bucket (should all depend on the size of your gardens).  I’ve got a large garden, 2 to be exact, so a 45 gallon plastic barrel is what I’m working with

3. WATER – fill the barrel (enough to cover the weeds) with water and cover it with a lid. Leave it alone for a 1 week minimum – 2 weeks is perfection,  at which time it will be nice and brown (like a tea) and ready to use.  And that’s all she wrote !!

When it’s time to fertilize your vegetables, flowers, fruit trees

Just keep in mind the tea will be a little smelly.  I believe you can really keep the smell down by aerating the tea while it’s brewing with a little pond pump (I used to use one when I made my vermiculture (worm) tea and it didn’t smell at all, but I’ve yet to try it with the weed tea).  Fill a container full of tea and water it down 10-1.  So if you’re using 1 cup of tea – add 10 cups additional water, and then fertilize your plants, vegetables, flowers.  Fertilize them once a week.  Top your barrel or bucket when you’re done fertilizing for the day and it should be back to full strength in a few days.

Change the weeds out (put the old ones in your compost pile) every 4 months as they will have completely decomposed by then.  Start the process over again.

Viola – your own FREE HOMEMADE WEED FERTILIZER.  Let me know how yours turns out and the improvements you’ve seen in your plants and vegetables.  Until then – HAPPY GARDENING 🙂
