And What to Eat After a Workout

What to Eat Before a Workout.  I’ve heard people say they try to fit a workout in when they first get up in the morning.  This never sat well with me as I’ve always been told that you should eat a well-balanced meal three to four hours beforehand (this is perfect for those who exercise in the afternoon and evening).   Why is a well balanced meal important?  Because your body needs fuel – needs the energy to get an effective exercise.

Now does it have to be a full meal?  No. But what you do eat should consist of protein and carbs. So if your morning routine also includes a workout, give your body the fuel it needs at least anywhere between 30-60 minutes prior.

Refuel and Replenish

The same holds true after a workout as you need to replenish what you’ve used.  This will help your muscles recover faster, better, and stronger.  What I do is I wait 15 minutes after a workout and then will make myself a post-workout smoothie (click the link for some tasty blends).   If you don’t want to have a smoothie or a full fledged meal that soon after working out, grab yourself a protein shake.  But it is important to have some protein and carbs afterwards as well.

The right foods before and after a workout can help boost your results and help your muscles recover faster, better, and stronger.  And make sure to hydrate before, during and after. Best wishes to you and have a great workout !!

  • This is good to know. Honestly, I am not sure what to eat after a workout since I have been trying to lose weight. Thank you for this list. I am glad that grilled chicken nd egg omelet are okay since these 2 are my favorites.
