5-Minute Healthy Banana Oatmeal and Cream of Wheat Recipe

“I always start my breakfast out with oatmeal, because it’s full of vitamin D, it’s a great carb, and you can get, like, some fun flavors in there.”
~ Gracie Gold

Gracie is absolutely correct as this recipe is made with ripe bananas, which makes it perfect if you’re looking for some sweetness. And if you’re like me and have a freezer full of frozen fruits, primarily for smoothies and juices, I’m pretty sure you can find a ripe banana in there somewhere for this Simple Creamy Banana Oatmeal breakfast bowl.

So here you go – my 5-Minute Healthy Banana Oatmeal and Cream of Wheat Recipe. It’s simple and quick and allows for any spice and sweetness to be added.

It’s got your Protein, Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron, and Potassium – everything you need to start your day off. Here are a couple of my personal tips:

  • Make your oatmeal with a combination of milk and water. The milk makes it creamier
  • And double up on the ingredients to make enough for an extra serving. I do this as I always seem to be hungry between meals. So I just keep the extra in the fridge to keep it fresh and then heat it up on the stove for that quick bite.

Simple Creamy Banana Oatmeal
2 servings

Ingredients
1 c Milk (I use 2% organic)
1 c water
1 c Steel Oats
3 tbls Cream of Wheat
1 ripe Banana, mashed
3 drops Stevia liquid
1/2 tsp Cinnamon

Instructions
Add the milk, water, and stevia (if using) in a pot over medium heat and warm thoroughly. Cut the banana and add it to the pot, use a potato masher to smooth it out. Add the oats and cream of wheat, and continue to cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until it reaches desired thickness and consistency, usually about 3-4 minutes. And viola – done !!

What can I mix oatmeal with?
To sweeten oatmeal without going overboard on refined sugar and still keeping it soft, try these additions:
Fresh fruit: berries, bananas, peaches, or pears
Spices: cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, or nutmeg
Natural sweeteners: a dash of maple syrup, honey, or stevia
